Few spaces in a home collect as much as the garage. It starts with a lawnmower and a few tins of paint, and twenty years later the car has not been inside since the last century. If you want to park again, convert the space, sell the property or simply see the floor, our garage clearance service will get you there without the aching back.
What we find, and what we take
Garages are full of unusual things, so we are used to surprises. We commonly clear:
- Cardboard boxes, plastic crates and years of stored household items.
- Old tools, workbenches, shelving units and metal racking.
- Bicycles, exercise equipment, prams and children's toys.
- Broken furniture, carpets and spare mattresses.
- Garden equipment, outdoor furniture and tired old barbecues.
- Appliances such as freezers and washing machines, where they have standard connections we can disconnect.
Some garage contents need extra care. We do not take hazardous waste such as asbestos sheeting, so if your garage roof or panels might contain it, tell us and we will advise you on the right route. Old paint, oil and similar liquids should also be mentioned when you ask for your quote.
Sorting out the keepers
A garage often holds more worth than people think: a good set of tools, a classic bicycle, boxes of photographs that migrated there during a house move. Before we load anything, you can point out what you want to keep. If you would like us to, we can sort and set aside paperwork, photographs, valuables and keepsakes for you. When a garage belonged to a relative who has passed away, this step is especially important, and our bereavement house clearance approach applies.
How it works on the day
We like at least 48 hours' notice, and most customers book a week or two ahead. If you are in a hurry, perhaps because of a house sale, call us and we will try to help. We never promise same-day service.
We aim to arrive at 9am. A garage on its own is usually a shorter job than a whole house, although a packed double garage can take several hours. Our team does all of the lifting and carrying, and sweeps up afterwards. Access matters, so tell us whether the garage is attached, at the end of a long drive or in a block behind the house. If you cannot attend, we can collect keys from a solicitor, estate agent or neighbour and return them afterwards. Our how it works guide covers the full process.
Recycled, reused and donated
A lot of what comes out of a garage is metal: racking, tools, bikes, old mowers. We sort everything, and metals and other materials are recycled. Items in good condition, such as tools, sports gear and furniture, are donated to charity or reused, and whatever remains goes to licensed recycling centres and waste facilities. We aim to recycle or donate as much as possible.
We support Children North East, Barnardo's, St Oswald's Hospice, Butterwick Hospice, the British Heart Foundation and Mind. Learn more about responsible disposal and the charities we work with.
A cleared garage can be many things: a parking space again, a workshop, a gym, or simply a clean empty shell that helps a house sale along. If you are planning a conversion or a sale, tell us your timeline and we will see how we can fit in with it.
Pricing, and why choose us
Our pricing covers staff wages, fuel and recycling-centre fees. Each of our vans holds about 1.5 tonnes, roughly the same as four 8-yard builder's skips, and many garages fit in a single trip. If there is too much for one load, a second load costs 50% of the fee. Quotes are free with no obligation. Send photos by WhatsApp, taking one from the doorway and a couple of the shelving, and we will give you a clear price. More on the pricing page.
We are part of the 5 Star House Clearance group, with a fleet of vans covering the whole North East. We work carefully, we treat your belongings with respect, and we leave the garage swept. Always check that any waste company you use is a licensed waste carrier. We are happy to show our waste carrier details on request.
